Credit Card Imprint – Get it!
It's important to get a Credit Card Imprint of your customers cards because it protects you from potential chargebacks. The last thing you want to have happen is a customer to go home and then claim they don't know why they have been charged 'X' amount from your business to their credit card provider.
If they do this, then your merchant account provider is going to ask you to provide a signed receipt proving the transaction and if you can not then you will need to prove some way of delivery of services/products.
If you cannot you could potentially face a chargeback. Which means the customer will be refunded their money and then you will receive a chargeback fee of anywhere from $5-$50 depending on the provider. If you end up with too many chargebacks you can have your merchant account terminated. This is why it's important to always try and get a credit card imprint of your customers card (along with the customer's lovely signature) authorizing the transaction.
